Watching Manny Pacquiao fight over the course of five years I always wondered two things about the man; If he had any superstitions when it came to fighting and why the heck he wraps his own hands. I spoke to Pepper Roach, brother of Freddie Roach and he informed me that Manny does in fact have superstitious but he would in his terms, “get his ass kicked,” by the team if he told me what they were. The many times I have interviewed Pacquiao and Roach, the question has always slipped my mind as to why the fighter wraps his own hands as opposed to his trainer.
When the press conference was held to announce Pacquiao’s fight with Timothy Bradley last week in Los Angeles, I was certain I would remember to ask trainer or fighter the reason for this somewhat strange behavior to us American fight fans. Interview time came and went and once again it slipped my mind. When I was leaving the press conference, from the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of Michael Konzc. As we all know Konzc is the adviser to Manny Pacquiao and the rest is history as I asked him about the hand wraps and the phone conversation between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao which you can see here.
