Mike Alvarado “Marquez doesn’t belong in the ring with younger lions, He’s a grandpa lion.”

Mike Alvarado is looking to bounce back from his defeat to Ruslan Provodnikov as he takes on Juan Manuel Marquez this Saturday at The Forum in Inglewood. It’s not the easiest comeback fight in the world as Marquez sports a record of 55-7, having faced over 12 former world title holders. It makes you realize not only how long Marquez has been around but how much of a living legend he has become to boxing fans around the world.

At age 40, Marquez is still trucking away as his main motivation for continuing to box is his desire to continue to make history by being the first Mexican to win a fifth world title in five divisions. The winner of this bout has been offered Manny Pacquiao as the prize as Mike Alvarado looks to retire Marquez in a place in which he started his career. If he does, Marquez’s career would come full circle in a way due to the fact he started his career at The Forum.

I had a chance to speak to Alvarado as he contends he will make that circle complete come Saturday night and that Marquez at this point of his career doesn’t belong with the young lions of boxing.
