Freddie Roach comments on Mayweather remark that Manny Pacquiao is “washed up”

The war of words between Manny Pacquiao’s and Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s camps is an unending affair and Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, is adding more fuel to the fire.

Roach responded to Mayweather (44-0, 26 KOs) calling Pacquiao a “has been” by saying that Mayweather is a little washed up himself. Sure one could say that about Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KOs) at this junction, as he is coming off two-straight losses and one of the most devastating one-punch knockouts in recent memory.

But to say that Mayweather is washed up after a dominant performance in his last fight against Robert Guerrero may catch some fans off guard.

Roach is hopeful if Pacquiao has a strong showing against Brandon Rios on Nov. 11 that the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight talk will start again. It may take more than one solid performance by Pacquiao to really get the buzz going again as fans will want more proof that Pacman still has top-tier abilities.

Mayweather has the most to gain on his next fight, as defeating a young and hungry champion should finally get the haters off Mayweather’s back that claim he doesn’t fight quality fighters in their primes.

Pacquiao’s fight with Brandon Rios is more of a rebuilding match, but will pay dividends in the end with a win of any sort against someone as dangerous and exciting (31-1-1, 23 KOs).

Once it’s all said and done the possible flare up of Pacquiao-Mayweather talks will most likely mean nothing in the end. Top Rank and Golden Boy are sure to be feuding for the foreseeable future, making the likelihood of a megafight as likely as it has been over the past few years where nothing has come to fruition.
