Shogun Rua robbed by four men brandishing rifles

It’s no secret that Brazil still has sketchy areas abound. Even though the country has cleaned up its crime loads in recent years, with the World Cup around the corner, and the police fighting off protestors, criminals are falling through the cracks. In recent weeks, crime rates have soared in Brazil, and none other than Shogun Rua was a victim of a holdup. Not just any holdup, one that involved 4 men robbing him and a friend with rifles.

They clearly knew who Shogun was. Four rifles seem about right for the former champ. Yeah? Shogun’s manager, Eduardo Alonso tells the story:

“They took his clothes, money and his friend’s car. They said ‘I know who you are, you’re a fighter. Don’t try anything.’ It was a sad situation.”

“They took everything, even his shirt,” he continued. “He was shoeless and shirtless. Imagine a guy at his size asking for a ride in the middle of the night. Nobody stopped to help him. He had to walk one mile to get to the police station. It was tense, but it’s all good now.”

Poor Shogun. He’s had a rough time lately. Hopefully they aren’t specifically targeting the relatively rich Shogun because of his money. However, that’s been known to happen to soccer players, so you can’t be that surprised.
