Rios Shows Guts And Glory With A KO Win Over Acosta

Highly touted prospect Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios finally has a world title. The Mexican-American fighter withstood adversity as he beat Miguel Acosta via KO in round 10 to become the new WBA light weight champion. Rios certainly learned a few things about himself in the fight as the now former champion out boxed and hit Rios for four rounds. Constantly landing his powerful right, Acosta used speed to his advantage and used movement to his favor. This would not phase Rios as the pressure fighter caught his opponent with a jab that sent the former champion to the ground. Acosta adjusted well soon after and continued to outbox the younger Rios to finish off round six. Rios continued coming forward as he was adjusting a bit better than Acosta. The turning point was definitely in the fifth and six rounds were Rios stuck to the body with big body blows. Rios would score the second knockdown of the night as a off balance Acosta was hit y a Rios straight that sent him crashing down once more in round eight. Acosta should be given credit as he kept his composure and managed to land a good amount of leather before ending the round.

Momentum was definitely moving in Rios favor as Acosta did not have the same pop in his shots he did in the early rounds. Rios managed to press Acosta up against the ropes and snuck in a with a combinations of shots to the chin and temple that had Acosta out on his feet and finally crashing to the ground. The corner of the former champion immediately jumped in to stop the fight as the young lion was crowned new champion at 1:14.
