Quick UFC Fight Night Pick – Ellenberger to Destroy Shields?

Jake EllenbergerBy GregRiot

Jake Ellenberger called out Jake Shields and the UFC made the match up official.  Of course Shields accepted the challenge and will put his pride on the line when facing the 6 years younger opponent. When comparing these fighters they might seem very alike at first:

Jake Shields

MMA Record: 26-5
Style: Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing
Rank:
Black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, NCAA Division II Wrestling

Jake Ellenberger

MMA Record: 25-5
Style: Wrestling, Kickboxing
Rank:
NCAA Division II Wrestler, Blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

But when you compare how they are getting their wins and their fighting styles, you can clearly see that they are nothing alike. Shields 26 wins came from 3 knockouts, 10 submission and 13 came by decisions. Ellenberger’s 25 wins came via 16 knockouts, 5 submissions and 4 came via decision. Shields has never been submitted and Ellenberger has never been knockout, I don’t see that changing in this fight.

BetDSI has the following odds up on this matchup:

JAKE ELLENBERGER PK+155
JAKE SHIELDS PK-185

Although Shields is the favorite, I don’t see him being able to withstand the speed, tenacity and knockout power of Ellenberger.  “The Juggernaut” can get hits in while his opponent is falling to the mat and be all over him without giving room to recuperate or defend properly. Ellenberger’s wrestling and BJJ skills should be enough to combats Shields’ if he gets into sticky situations.

UFC Fight Night Pick: Ellenberger to get his 12th 1st round KO. Bet on it.
