Pernell Whitaker “As Long As I keep Zab Focused He Shouldn’t Have A Problem”

Man we love fight week! Regardless of the sport, the build up to a fight that you have invested yourself in pays dividends when your guy is up there in the ring or cage about to do the damn thing. This week’s huge fight? Amir Khan vs. Zab Judah for a part of the unified junior welterweight crown.  Zab Judah is like a cat with nine lives and I like to refer to him as the most resilient man in boxing. Just when you think he is down and out he somehow turns it all around and comes back center stage. This Saturday in Las Vegas, Zab Judah will have Amir Khan across from him in the ring as the last obstacle in reclaiming the junior welterweight throne he once held.

Judah has had as many ups and downs in his career as a roller-coaster but for the 33 year old southpaw it seems things have come full circle. For one, Judah cities becoming born again as a major step forward in helping him cope with distractions that had haunted him in the past. He brought in hall of famer and one of the greatest defensive fighters in the history of the sport, Pernell Whitaker into his camp and together the two have had some good results. Since becoming part of the Judah camp, Whitaker has helped out here and there but it wasn’t until Judah’s bout with Kaizer Mabuza that “Sweatpea” became the chief first. A knock out win later along with a IBR title belt, only two stand in Judah’s way in reclaiming the throne he once occupied as junior welterweight king in 2001. The first obstacle is Amir Khan, the current WBA junior welterweight champion and the other of course is Timothy Bradley who holds the last key to the crown.

Our fight correspondent Marcos Villegas spoke to Whitaker about how he rates Khan as a opponent for Judah and if their is anything that the young champion brings to the table that has him and team Judah worried. The hall of famer ensures us that if a focused Zab Judah comes on in July 23rd, there will be no problems.
