Devon Alexander will finally have a bout in the fight capital of the world, Las Vegas, Saturday, Dec. 13 when he faces Amir Khan, but that doesn’t mean he is not looking ahead to possible opponents in the future.

Speaking to the media at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas after the grand arrivals of all the fighters featured on the Showtime quadruple header, Alexander said, like most in the 147-154-pound divisions, he wants Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Alexander’s name has popped up as a potential foe for “Money May” before, so he is not coming out of nowhere hoping for what breaks down to “a boxer’s lottery” as no fight will earn someone more money than a Mayweather fight.

Alexander, who is known for his hand speed and agility, questions if Mayweather would face him, because of his quick mitts.

“He (Mayweather) likes to fight fighters who he’s faster then, who he can move and box around easy,” Alexander said. “That’s the type of fight he likes to fight. So I doubt that it will happen, but I would like to fight Floyd.”

The consensus is that if Khan wins this weekend he is all but guaranteed a Mayweather showdown, barring a miracle and a Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight being made.

There has been no such talk for Alexander if he defeats Khan, but one would imagine it would make him all the more attractive to Mayweather if he can dethrone “King Khan.”

Before any real talks can take place, Alexander has to take care of business Saturday night. Beating Khan will be tough (Khan is around a 2-1 favorite depending on where you look) but with the bout almost being a pick ’em fight, 2014 should come to an exciting end for boxing fans worldwide, as the two fighters with quick hands should produce a high-energy battle.
