Mark Munoz Talks Maia And Fighting Anderson Silva

Mark Munoz is entering his bout with Demian Maia at UFC 131 with high hopes and aspirations. The mixed martial artist has amassed a 5-1 record as a middleweight since dropping down from light heavyweight back in 2009. A win over the crafty ground specialist in Demian Maia would put him in line for a title shot or at the very least one away from a championship title bout.

That brings up a tricky situation as Munoz is a close friend of current middleweight king Anderson Silva. Munoz, who trains at his gym, Reign Training Center has a training partnership with Kings MMA and Blackhouse which houses Anderson Silva, Mauricio Rua, Fabricio Werdum and many others. We see it as a world class training trifecta. So what will Munoz and Silva do if indeed they do meet inside the cage? “We will cross the bridge if the time every comes,” comments Munoz. Certainly his bout with Maia is no walk in the park as the Brazilian ground wizard is on a two fight win streak over solid names such as Kendal Grove and Mario Miranda.

Munoz has brought Ryon Gracie to work on a plethora of potential positions he may encounter on the ground sensing that there is a good chance the bout will end up in that position at some point during the night of June 11 in Vancouver. In this Interview, Munoz talks to our fight correspondent Marcos Villegas about his fight with Maia, the situation that could arise with Anderson Silva and his gym, Reign Training Center.
