Klitschko/Haye And UFC 132 Will Be Providing Fireworks This Weekend

By Alex Mattis

I currently live in Austin, TX and there is a burn ban in effect. I am disallowed to fire off/enjoy fireworks this weekend. I NEED fireworks every 4th of July.

My current plans to enjoy America’s independence involve consuming a bottle of Nyquil, putting on some explosions in the sky, turning on my PS3 visualizer and let the night take me away. My backup plan is to turn my tube on Saturday and let an amazing night of combat sports fulfill my needs for explosiveness.

The UFC’s 132 card is one of the best ‘guarantee’ cards in recent memory. While other recent cards have looked absolutely stellar on paper, I see no way this card could disappoint.

Kicking off the evening, the on-a-roll Dennis Siver will take on “Moderately Attractive” Matt Wiman in a ‘Who knows what?!’ affair. Following up will be the man who is incapable of being in a boring fight, Carlos Condit, challenging the (technically) undefeated streak of Dong Hyun “Stun Gun” Kim. This should be a CLASSIC.

The first bout of the tri-headliner may feature the last hoorah of UFC all-star, Tito Ortiz as he attempts to relive memories past against TUF 9 winner, Ryan Bader. Tito has no choice but to fight desperate. Expect Ortiz to rally the power of the unknown and somehow walk away with a decision victory.

The co-main will see violence when Wanderlei Silva and Chris Leben exchange artillery. From start-to-finish this should be exciting but Leben will pull out the biggest win of his career with a KO victory over the former PRIDE champion.

The main event of UFC 132 will see a long awaited rematch between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber as they clash for the UFC bantamweight title. Cruz will be looking to avenge a 2007 loss. Common logic is sticking with the champ. However, I will go with my Big Country on this one and choice Faber via guillotine… once again.

Expect fireworks! (I’ve played out my pun, I’m aware.)

In the world of boxing, we have the most anticipated heavyweight bout in years. While America cares not because a Mayweather or a Pacquiao isn’t involved, much of the world will be tuned into David Haye vs. Wladimir Klitschko. For years, these two have taken verbal jabs at each other, teased us with ‘signed’ bouts and done damn near everything but actually fight one another. As the poster states: “The time for talking is over.” This will be a one-sided beat-down (in Klitschko’s favor), but this is THE fight to check out this weekend.

Don’t miss it, y’all. Enjoy and a Happy 4th of July to all!
