Live from Hilo, Chad “The Brahma Bull” Thomas finished Kekoa Lau early in the first round. Referee Mike Aina called a halt to the fight 18 seconds in, with Thomas dropping Lau with an over hand right that caught Lau square on the chin. After the fight Thomas explained that “I had a game plan for the fight and I followed it perfectly”.
When asked what is next he said “I signed with Hawaii Home Grown MMA which J.D Penn runs and I have 1 year 6 fight contract with 5 more fights to go and it looks like August 7 will be my next fight”. With a record of 4-1 with all 4 coming by KO, TKO, or Ref stoppage the 32 year old Thomas looks to be making big waves here in the Pacific.
In the co-main event it was Max “Lil Evil” Hollaway stopping Toby “2Quick” Misech with what looked like a right hook to the chin and a left to the body that dropped Misech in his tracks. With this win Hollaway earned the Just Scrap 145lbs amateur title.
In other fights it was Kealii “The Saint” Kanekoa choking out Micah Ige with a rear naked choke in the first round. Patrick Abiley beat Reed Akashi midway through the second round with a rear naked choke.
Kawika “Tipps” Martin defeated Jeff Thome with what looked like a grappling match. Kawika looked to control the first round on the ground with Thome having no answer for Kawika’s grappling. Kawika controlled the match with his superior wrestling skills and ground control. It looked like more of the same in the second round with Kawika taking control of the match and taking Thome down at will. Then with seconds left Kawika got Thome’s back, sunk in his hooks, threw some punches to soften him up and finished Thome with a rear naked choke. With this victory Kawika is in line for shot at the vacant 155lbs amateur title. Some people are speculating that Kevin Soong will be his next opponent; Soong and Martin met once with Soong edging out the victory. If they do meet again it is sure to be another gut wrenching fight.
Riquo “Ricco” Abadilla had an impressive performance defeating Kevin Villanueva by rear naked choke less than a minute into the fight. I spoke with Abadilla before the fight and he explained that he was working on his Jiu-Jitsu skills and it definitely showed as he finished Villanueva early in the first round. In other fights Jacob Dlida-Easterton loss to Keoni Rodrigues by rear naked choke. Kevin Silva turned in an awesome performance defeating Nat Rowland by Referee stoppage due to un-answered strikes. Brent Sanbei defeated Bryson Kaneao by TKO in the second round while Miles Cambell stopped Renesis Tolentino by TKO in the first round.
Jeffery Oher defeated Justin Estabillo by rear naked choke in the first round, Donald Gonzalves submitted Mike Soares by arm bar in the first round and Laimana Mauga stopped Alex Blanco by K. in the first round.
The next Just Scrap will be August 7, 2010 at the Hilo Civic Auditorium and some of the fighters that will be on that card will be Ross “Da Boss” Ebanez and Iron Mike Aina. Special Thanks to Chad Hao and J.D. Penn for all your hospitality and Consideration.
