MMA veteran Joe “Diesel” Riggs will be the main event on Aug 13th at the Dodge Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona as he will take on heavy handed Louis Taylor in a catch weight bout on Showtime.
The StrikeForce event will prove to be a ground breaking as a four-woman single elimination welterweight (135 pound) tournament comprised of four female prospects to be announced soon will completed over the course of the evening’s fight card.
The winner of the tournament will face the winner of the scheduled women’s welterweight title bout between Sarah Kaufman and Roxanne Modafferi taking place on July 23rd in Everett, Washington on Showtime.
Riggs a former UFC veteran who has competed in the heavyweight, light heavyweight, middleweight and welterweight divisions is coming off a controversial unanimous decision win over Jay Hieron. His opponenet Louis Taylor (6-1), of Chicago, has rattled off two consecutive knockout wins since his first career loss to Nate Moore on the undercard of the STRIKEFORCE and M-1 GLOBAL: Fedor vs. Rogers event in Hoffman Estates, Ill. on Nov. 7, 2009.
The 5-foot-11 Taylor has scored knockouts in four of his six consecutive victories and has only gone to the judges scorecards once in his professional career.
