Ishe Smith stops Ryan Davis via Round 2 KO

After Ishe Smith’s original opponent for his May 2 fight date, Erislandy Lara, opted out of the bout to pursue a fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, the fight card lost a lot of its luster.

Despite losing out on a shot at another title and a name fighter, Smith obviously didn’t let that hinder his mindset going into his bout agaisnt Ryan Davis Friday night at the Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Jumping on Daivs (24-14-3, 9 KOs) right out the gates, it was clear that the fight wasn’t going to last very long with Smith on the attack. Just before the end of the second round Smith (26-6, 12 KOs) caught Davis with a vicious shot and couldn’t get up before the 10-count.

Although the win was over a journey man fighter who will not do much for his career, Smith still did it in front of a national audience on Fox Sports 1’s Golden Boy Live which is always a good thing.

Now Smith will have to wait and see what happens when Alvarez and Lara meet on July 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and maybe he’ll get a shot at whoever wins that bout.

Also victorious on the night was TMT up-and-comer Mickey Bey (20-1-1, 10 KOs) who won a unanimous decision against Alan Herrera (32-6, 21 KOs) , surviving being knocked down in Round 7 despite dominating the bout. The scene was eerily similar to his only loss to John Molina last year, who caught Bey and ended the bout in the 10th and final round despite Bey dominating the bout.
