Checking in with Juan Ma Lopez

Today in Caguas, Puerto Rico, two-time world champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez, looked fit and ready for his upcoming fight against Rafael Marquez that will take place on Saturday, November 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and that will promoted by Top Rank and televised by Showtime. Lopez (29-0, 26 KO’s) had a media day today at the Jose “Cheo” Aponte gym in Caguas, where the boxing commission of Puerto Rico had its traditional 30 day pre-weigh-in, and where Lopez was required not to exceed 20% of the weight limit (126) for his fight against Marquez. The limit 30 days out is 144.9 and Lopez stop the scale at 136.

“The weight is fine just like always, I feel great and in good rhythm and I am training at 100% for this fight against Marquez. I don’t think the postponement was that big a deal. I took some time off and came back ready to work and have been working very hard so that I will be at my best against Marquez,” said Lopez.

Lopez will travel with his team in two week, to have enough time to get ready for what many consider his toughest fight to date.

“I need to get early to get use to the weather and time difference. I need to be at my best to defeat Marquez and I feel we are in the right to track to do so.” added Lopez.

His manager, Orlando Pinero, is happy with the training camp.

“With about a month to go, I feel that Juanma is about 80% ready for the fight, so there should be no problem to be at 100% for fight night. This is a very tough fight and Juanma has trained very hard for this fight against Marquez,” said Orlando Pinero.
