Well we have our very first PPV of the year made official as Showtime starts 2014 with a bang. Not a self high-five bang like Diamond Dallas Page that would literally paralyze us to the point that we had to try out DDP Yoga but a bang somewhat close to that. Canelo Alvarez returns to the ring after losing a lopsided decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. back in September to headline his first PPV on his own against Alfredo Angulo. We will see if Alvarez is “born ready” as Angulo is no slouch and has the power to put Alvarez on his butt. Both fighters are coming off losses so you know they are going to want to prove something to fans once they step in the ring with each other.
Today in Los Angeles, Golden Boy and Showtime put together the opening press conference to get some buzz going for this March 8th attraction. Now I know you probably feel that Canelo should be facing Lara but, you put two guys in the same ring that come forward and things get interesting really quick. The card will also feature fan favorite Leo Santa Cruz taking on Christian Mijares as well as Canelo’s brother Ricardo who looks to win his own world title against Omar Figueroa . Jorge Linares finishes off the bill as he takes Nihito Arakawa on the free portion of this card on Showtime.
