When HBO announced that it would be splitting ties with Golden Boy Promotions it sent a literal WTF sound-wave that was met with both shock and awe around the boxing world. Now imagine how Golden Boy Promotions and it’s two head honchos Richard Schaefer and Oscar De La Hoya must of felt? Learning that a premium cable provider will not be bidding for your fights or providing fees to your business must be some heavy ish to swallow but in this interview with Oscar De La Hoya, he seems to be taking it in stride.

De La Hoya speaks to Marcos Villegas about the moment he found out about the news, as the now retired Golden Boy was living that baller lifestyle on the links hitting back some balls when he was informed by Schaefer that HBO was splitting ties. Though surprised at first, De La Hoya is taking it in stride. He promises the best fights he can make will still be made and has a plan in place to aggressively target future fighters and prospects to sign with Golden Boy.

Can we expect to see all of this drama blow over anytime soon? Well according to De La Hoya, Golden Boy not working with Top Rank is not a product of not being able to come to a agreement over fights, but rather over sometime much deeper and darker. What is Oscar alluding to? Who knows, maybe it was Arum who leaked those photos of De La Hoya cross dressing, or maybe it Arum still owes De La Hoya royalties of some sort. As of the current Oscar is not talking but soon we hope we will find out and soon we hope this stupid cold war between promoters and networks is over.
