On Super Bowl Sunday the buzz wasn’t only on the game that ended up being a snooze fest, there was also attention on Floyd Mayweather, as it was rumored that he would announce his next opponent via social media.

Mayweather didn’t announce his next opponent, but he did tell his millions of social media followers that they had the power in their hands to choose between Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana for his bout on May 3.

This tactic would be great if there was any question to whom the fans want Money to face next, but the fact is there is not. Fans have been clamoring for Mayweather to face Maidana instead of Khan ever since the two popped up as the likely choices for his 46th bout, especially after Maidana defeated Mayweather’s protégée Adrien Broner.

Of course, even though he wasn’t a choice, fans had to throw the “Fight Manny Pacquiao Next” argument in and we all know that fight is never happening.

So in theory, yes this idea is a cool one for fans who can help choose Mayweather’s next foe, but with the obvious choice being evident without a vote, Money should have not wasted his time and just announced Maidana would be his choice for the May 3 showdown.
