Yesterday, Andre Berto and Jesús Soto Karass completed the last step before their bout for the vacant NABF welterweight championship. Both took to the scale and both weighed-in at 147. Tonight, the two will step into the ring.
Andre Berto has experienced a highly publicize fall from grace. Once one of the hottest prospects in boxing, Berto now, after losing two of his last four fights, is looking for a victory and moving back into the spotlight. For Karass, this is the opportunity of his career. For this long-time veteran, a win over Berto would put him in headlines previously unseen in his career.
The undercard of the evening features two 12-round title fights. First, Omar Figueroa Jr. will face Nihito Arakawa for the vacant WBC interim lightweight championship. Rounding out the triple-header is a WBA interim welterweight championship bout between Keith Thurman and Diego Chaves. Leather promises to be thrown in this one.
