Bellator Friday News Report

Bellator Fighting Championships will be kicking off it’s third season on August 12th at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood,CA with a bang as it continues to grow on the success of season 1 and 2. Officially slated to appear on the card will be the current Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard. The Cuban born middleweight is riding on a 14 fight win streak as he looks to continue his dominance in the Bellator cage. He will have a special non title bout with former Green Bay Packer running back  Herbert “Whisper” Goodman.

Lombard’s last appearance resulted in the six second destruction of former UFC fighter Jay Silva, resulting in one of the most spectacular knock outs in Bellator’s short history. Though Goodman is no slouch (he has prior wins over TUF7 veteran Dante Rivera and Jordan Radev) it may be too early in his career to be matched up with someone the likes of Lombard.

Bellator Season 3 will also mark the debut of it’s inaugural heavyweight tournament. The organization released statements this week announcing it had acquired South African Neil “Goliath” Grove.  Grove will be making his US debut and sports a record of 8-2-1 with knockout wins over James Thompson and James McSweeney. Eddie Sanchez, the former UFC star will also be included in the heavyweight tournament. Sanchez sports a record of 12-3 , but is best known for his brief stint in the UFC. He went 3-3 in the Las Vegas organization losing to Mirko Cro-Cop and finally being cut after a loss to Justin McCully. Other participants in the heavyweight tournament include undefeated Damian “The Polish Pitbull” Grabowski, Mike “300” Hayes and Scott Barrett.

The heavyweight tournament kicks off August 12th.
