Bao Quach – “I Do Not Fear Ferriera’s Ground Game”

By Dustin De La Torre

Bao Quach talks to FightHubTV about his upcoming fight on Friday, December 09, 2011 at M1 Challenge XXX, where he will be taking on Cesar Gracie Fight Team Member Alessandro Ferriera. Quach also shares his thoughts on getting back into action, “I haven’t fought for awhile and I’m excited to be stepping back into the fight game against a game opponent.’’

FHTV: You have a fight coming up this weekend at M1 challenge XXX versus Alessandro Ferriera. Let us know about you opponent? What are your thoughts about fighting for M1?

BQ: My opponent is a Brazilian guy that is training with a highly respectable camp coming out of Cesar Gracie. He has a very strong submission game and from several videos I have seen of him, it looks like he has pretty good muay thai skills also. I’m happy to be fighting for M 1 on my first fight back. I haven’t fought for awhile and I’m excited to be stepping back into the fight game against a game opponent.

FHTV: Ferriera (10-1) has eight wins coming via submission, are you going to try to prevent this fight from hitting the ground?

BQ: I want to keep him out of his comfort zone, but if I have the opportunity to take him down, I will. I don’t fear his ground game. But I don’t want him to be on top of me.

FHTV: Do you feel your grappling and jiu-jitsu to be superior to his?

BQ: I’m also a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, so I don’t fear his ground game. If I have the opportunity to be on top of him during the fight, I will take the opportunity to try to finish him.

FHTV: What do you expect from him? Do you expect him to shoot for a take down right away?

BQ: I think he will try to take it to the ground as soon as he can. I’ve been working a lot of wrestling, so I will be ready if he does.

FHTV: What do you feel are your strongest areas of your fight game?

BQ: I feel the strongest areas of my game are that I am well rounded, I have a background in wrestling, jiu-jitsu, and muay thai.

FHTV: You have fought a who’s who in MMA how did you get involved in MMA?

BQ: I got involved in MMA through my friends Sean and Jimmy. They brought me to my first jiu-jitsu class, and after that I was hooked. I continued to train everyday almost after that.

FHTV: Having fought professionally since 2001 what has been the biggest change in MMA in your opinion?

BQ: The biggest change in MMA is how it has evolved to being a main stream sport and I think it has surpassed all the other sports programs. It seems like there is a UFC event every week and they even have free events on different channels

FHTV: How has the life of a MMA fighter changed since your first started fighting?

BQ: Sadly, I don’t get to see some of my good friends like I use to. I don’t go out as much. I try to stay focused on my goals and I’ve dedicated myself to my fight career.

FHTV: You have fought at 145 or around 145 for your career what has it like being one of the top guys fighting at your weight class in the world?

BQ: I think I was at the top for a very short time and really don’t remember it, but I will be back at the top again very soon.

FHTV: A lot of fans may not be aware but you are in the new MMA video game “Supremacy MMA” how did you get involved with that?

BQ: My friend told me they needed MMA fighters for a video game and we all went down there to try it out and made it into the video game.

FHTV: What is it like being in a video game?

BQ: To be honest I don’t know because I haven’t even seen the game. They didn’t even give me a copy yet. But its good publicity!

FHTV: You are Vietnamese-American, besides Cung-Le, Nam Phan and yourself, you gentlemen are the face for Vietnamese community as far as mixed martial arts talk about that? And do you think we will see more Vietnamese-American fighters in the near future?

BQ: Those guys are both in the UFC and I have the utmost respect for them. I think Nam and Cung Le are the most exciting fighters in the UFC. They are both my favorite fighters and I hope to be alongside them in the UFC one day. I think they represent the Vietnamese community very well, and I hope to do the same. Hopefully more Vietnamese people will be motivated by us to start training and we will start seeing more Vietnamese fighters in the near future.

FHTV: Bao we would like to thank you for taking some time and speaking to us at FightHubTV would you like to thank anyone?

BQ: I want to thank M 1 for giving me the opportunity to fight on this card. I would also like to personally thank my friends from OC Boxing and fitness, BYB, Mario Angelito, Hugo Vargas, Versaclimber, Contract Killer, and give a shout out to my team Rounders MMA! And thank fighthubtv.com of course!
