Andre Dirrell will not fight Andre Ward; sustains injury

Andre Ward will have a new opponent on November 27 after Andre Dirrell pulled out with an alleged undisclosed injury. Ward and Dirrell (former Olympic teammates) were originally scheduled to meet September 25, but no agreement could be reached between the respective camps and the bout was rescheduled for November 27.

Ken Hershman, Executive Vice President and General Manager of SHOWTIME Sports, said today that Ward’s fight will go on as scheduled against an opponent to be named and a decision wil be made whether that fight will be a part of the tournament or not. Win or lose, Ward will advance to the semifinal win or lose based on tournament points he has already earned. Dirrell’s departure makes the November 6 Super Six bout between Allan Green and newcomer Glen Johnson even more significant as the winner will likely advance to the semifinal.
