With fight week here for Amir Khan as he is set to take on Devon Alexander on the Showtime televised card, live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the WBA International and WBC Silver welterweight champ is ready to close out 2014 on a postive note.

With Khan’s last bout being in May, in his win over Luis Collazo on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather JR. versus Marcos Maidana I, he is eager to get back in the ring after a solid training camp.

“Camp has been great,” Khan said. “We’re working hard and feeling in the best shape ever. I can’t wait for the fight.

“I’m feeling strong and sharp. This is one of my best camps, a lot of hard work has been put in and it will pay off on fight night. I’m excited to fight. It’s been a long time.”

When Khan is not in the gym training he still has his mind in the fight, teaming up with his family to prepare for the Dec. 13 bout.

“I’m relaxing and resting (when I’m not in camp),” Khan said. “I spend time studying Devon’s style. My brother (5-0 super flyweight Haroon Khan) and dad are in town so I have company. We go out to the mall or for walks. I’m a very chill guy.”

Motivation is key to any successful athlete and for Khan those closest to him are what keep him going when times are tough.

“My father and coach,” Khan explained. “They motivate me and get the best out of me.  Especially when I’m tired and down and missing my family and my little girl Lamaisah. Also Lamaisah is a huge motivation, I’m doing this for her.”

With training camp for the Alexander bout falling in the middle of holidays, Khan still has the time to enjoy the season with his loved ones and aiding those less fortunate.

“Spending time with family and having a break, just not thinking of anything else but family time,” He said.  “Also helping families in need and charities through Amir Khan Foundation.”

With holidays comes the food, as any good family get together wouldn’t be complete without a feast and for Khan his favorite is simple, “Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey, sweet potatoes and big bowl of salad.”

With all the food, a feast is made that much better when you have great company. If Khan had a choice of a historical figure to chat with over dinner he would keep it in the ring for his pick.

“Muhammad Ali, he is my boxing hero and Mike Tyson who is now a friend,” He said.  “It would just be good to talk about boxing and they can tell me about their careers.”
