Alan Belcher: Locked In Cage For Animal Adoption Charity

By Alex Mattis

This Friday, October 14, UFC middleweight Alan Belcher will be making an appearance for the Human Society of South Mississippi to promote pet adoption. Belcher is a strong supporter of animal welfare and has even been featured in an ad for the Human Society with the slogan “Tough Guys Neuter Their Pets.”

Beginning at 2pm on Friday, Belcher will enter familiar territory as he will be locked into a cage; one of the Human Society’s kennels to be specific. From that point on, Belcher will be signing autographs and taking photos for adopters until 8pm aiming for the HSSM’s goal of 50 adoptions. All adoptions will be $14 and come with an opportunity to win an autographed t-shirt or a free three-month membership at Belcher’s MMA Club in D’Iberville, MS.

Belcher came into the UFC in 2006 as a heralded prospect and immediately impress in a gusty performance against Yushin Okami. Over the following years “The Talent” racked up victories over top middleweight like Jorge Santiago, Denis Kang, Wilson Gouveia, and Patrick Cote. In August of 2010 Belcher had to withdraw from a main event bout against Demian Maia to undergo emergency eye surgery that put his career in jeopardy. However, after a lengthy recovery, Belcher triumphantly returned to the UFC this past September; defeating Jason MacDonald in the first round.

So if you’re in the area this Friday, head on down to the HSSM’s facility off Hwy 49, pick up an adorable critter, and snap a picture a UFC fighter. You can totally show both off to your co-workers on Monday morning!
