Agbeko Diagnosed With Sudden Onset Sciatica; Bout With Mares Off

This weekends Showtime Bantamweight final between IBF bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko and finalist Abner Mares has been called off. Various sources reported earlier that Agbeko had collapsed Monday night in Los Angeles after a doctors examination.

It was found out that Agbeko has sudden onset sciatica. A lower back condition that results in weakness or numbness in the legs. It is caused by a compression of the sciatic nerve which in Agbeko’s case may have been caused from his flight over to Los Angeles. He was forced to withdraw from his bout after learning about the condition. As of current, it is unknown if the card will continue as follows with Yonnhy Perez vs. Vic Darchinyan getting a bump to main event status or if Abner Mares will be given a new opponent.
