It has been quiet some time since Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been released from jail and since then, the undefeated fighter has kept a tight lip about his experiences since completing his sentence for a misdemeanor domestic battery case. Today in Los Angeles, Mayweather was on hand for the 8th annual Watson Celebrity Charity basketball game. The event brought out boxing stars such as Adrien Broner, Danny Garcia, “Sugar” Shane Mosley and of course Mayweather himself.
When the cameras rolled, Mayweather at first wanted to only speak about the charity game, then we unleashed Marcos Villegas on him. We were surprised at how Mayweather opened up about his jail experience, quoting that he would do 1,300 push ups a day, while only being allowed five hours in total of recreation time for every seven days. Mayweather did admit he gained a greater appreciation for the simple things in life, “The main thing is you appreciate the small things in life. Just seeing trees and walking down the street and seeing people walk by you..you appreciate certain things like that after losing your freedom,” said Mayweather.
Conversation of course turned to Mayweather’s recent split with 50 Cent and the comments he had towards Mayweather’s regiment of fight, spend, fight (interview can be seen here). Mayweather did not make any direct quotes on where his friendship stands with the hip-hop artist; after Villegas asked if the two still talk, Mayweather reverted the question with this response, “I am not here to talk about another mans pockets or how he spends his money or what another man invests in. Nobody knows what I invest in and nobody knows what I have going on. Like I said before I am in a comfortable position, I am happy, I love life…you live, you learn and the main thing is just being positive and making your inner circle stronger.”
