Is Seth Mitchell The American Heavyweight Savior?

As all eyes and ears were focused last Saturday on rising twenty year old prospect Saul “Canelo” Alvarez who continued his undefeated streak (36-0) another young rising hopefully went under the radar. As Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya touted Alvarez as the next Mexican superstar and the potential savior of boxing during the post fight press conference of the Alvarez vs. Hatton bout, Seth Mitchell lie seated and unbothered by the hordes of media that were in attendance.

The twenty-eight year old had just beaten Charles Davis in impressive fashion, knocking him down multiple times en route to a second round KO via a body punch. He improved his record to a perfect 21-0 and it seemed odd to us that here was a heavyweight American fighter, who fought with the speed of a middleweight seemingly being ignored by everyone in the room. Take it for what you may, but we saw potential in that bout with Davis, and we approached Mitchell to talk to him about his fight and how he sees himself in the heavyweight picture in the coming year.

Mitchell, came across well spoken, with brimming confidence and charisma. It seems the man has the goods to be a star, and regardless if “Canelo” Alvarez becomes a star or a dud, what the sweet science has been craving for since the era of Mike Tyson has been an American heavyweight that is worthy to follow in the foot steps of greats such as Tyson, Ali, Foreman, Frazier and so forth.

Watch out folks, this kid could very well be the next big thing….
