Matt Mitrione “I would hate to KO Brendan Schaub” will try to get Bonus at UFC On Fox 8

It seems like The Ultimate Fighter season 10, featuring the likes of Roy Nelson, Kimbo Slice, Matt Mitrione and Brendan Schuab was the last TUF season of consequence. Sure, you have a few winners from seasons post-TUF 10 hanging around, but let’s be honest, no one really cares that much about their low-level fights that don’t really seem to be leading anywhere. So now we have Schuab and Meathead, squaring off at UFC on FOX 8 on July 27th. They are friends and former training partners, but that doesn’t mean Mitrione will hold back on his friend Schuab.

“He’s a good friend of mine, but I know he’s going to come out there and try to put hands on me or fold me up like a pretzel, so I’m going to go out there and put hands on him or fold him up like a pretzel,” Mitrione said. “However that works out, I want to get my hand raised, you know?”

Such is the life of a fighter, especially in such a small world like MMA. It’s almost inevitable for friends or gym-mates to not fight, especially in certain, shallow divisions such as heavyweight. Mitrione makes up for his lack of experience in fighting with a solid brain inside that meathead of his. He knows he’s gotta do what he’s gotta do.
“He’s a good friend of mine, so I would hate to knock him out, but if he wants to stand with me, I’m going to put hands on him. I’m going to try to punish him for that, it’s the way it goes.”
One thing’s for certain: both of these guys hold a finish rate between their fights that is astronomical: Meathead has finished 5 out of his 6 wins via knockout, and Schuab has Ko’d or TKO’d his opponents in 7 out of his 9 wins. Someone is going to sleep, I think.
