Ronda Rousey striking coach “Kaufman is tough but she is one dimensional”

Women’s MMA is highlighted in full force this weekend on Strikeforce as the beautiful yet deadly Ronda Rousey makes her first defense of her Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight title against ex champion Sarah Kaufman. All eyes will descend onto San Diego this Saturday but before the bell rings and these two ladies scrap we had a chance to speak to Rousey’s striking coach Edmond Tarverdyan.

Tarverdyan who is a professional fighter himself and has a well documented background in Muay Thai believes that Kaufman is tough but a one dimensional fighter. Helping train other fighters such undefeated boxer Vanes Martirosyan has given Tarverdyan a more complete comprehension of striking and is applying those lessons to Rousey in MMA. “Her striking is looking very good, right now if we had Miesha Tate or Kaufman spar with her right now I would put my money on Ronda. I am telling you guys, I am a striking coach and I have known this game for a long time and have trained fighters…ill put my money on Ronda, she is that good,” said Tarverdyan. You can expect such comments from a coach though it will be a aspect that will be under intense scrutiny come Saturday night. We certainly hope Rousey has become as good as Tarverdyan is claiming, if so we can expect a beautiful striking battle come Saturday night.
