Freddie Roach would of advised St-Pierre to fight Diaz standing, believes he is not a good puncher but not a bad one

Freddie Roach is known as a encyclopedia of boxing knowledge to those well versed in combat sports, but it comes as a surprise to us to hear that Roach would of advised Georges St-Pierre to fight Nick Diaz standing if they would of fought. Fight Hub TV correspondent Michael Mardones spoke with Roach recently in Las Vegas as he revealed that part of the game plan for Pierre was to execute the fight standing and utilize angles that would not allow Diaz to strike. Roach did not agree with the hit and run approach of Carlos Condit and the standing approach makes us wonder if he believes that St-Pierre is the harder puncher between the two fighters.

It would make sense as Roach admits he does not think Diaz is a good puncher though still gives him credit…sorta saying he is not a bad one either. Roach’s hunch that Diaz has proved right though, as he announced that he is ready to come back out of retirement and would like to face UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva which oddly has also been trained by Freddie Roach. In a weird circle of fate, UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit has also trained at The Wild Card with Freddie Roach so in a way Roach has trained two guys that possible could beat St-Pierre.
