Chris Weidman “I want to be known as one of the G.O.A.T.” Talks Anderson Silva

I still can’t believe what happened back in July. I still can’t believe Chris Weidman talked a complete game, claiming he would destroy Anderson, and then he did it. Absolute props to Weidman, absolute props, and I’ve been handling Anderson’s loss easier with time, but that doesn’t change the fact that I really still can’t believe what happened last July. The knock out. Man.

But we are here now, almost three months later, with the UFC going on an eight city world tour and I’m still in a daze. Luckily we have all of these awesome interviews to just soak in. The latest is with the champ (I still can’t believe it) Weidman.

“When I first got to the sport I used to be so nervous, trying to sound smarter or whatever expectation you have for yourself. But I’ve learned that people aren’t going to like you. I’m just myself. I’m not on the high (from the fight) anymore, I’m focused on the next fight. It was amazing though, I’ve been thinking about that fight since day one, and Anderson is the greatest of all time. Sometimes you say things and they don’t work out and sometimes they do and it’s unbelievable. Believing in yourself is 99% of the game. Everyone at this level is strong and fast that have coaches that believe in them, but it’s about really truly believing in yourself. Once you get to the top of any sport, it’s about the guy who is working the hardest.”

Long term career goals?

“Win every fight and become one of the greatest of all time. But this one I’m just going forward, some people think it was a fluke, that motivates me. Anderson deserves that respect but it just motivates me.”
