Brad Tavares feels bad for Phil Baroni, but at the end of the day, there can only be one

“There can be only one!”

As we are humming “Kings of the Universe” by Queen this mantra that was made famous by a Mr. Connor MacLeod and his red headed step child of a brother Duncan, it rings so true to all of combat sports. Where a win could potentially turn you into a superstar over night (ahem Anthony Pettis) when two men step in to face each other, there has to be a loser (except in the rare occasion a draw happens). The losing party on the other hand is met a cruel fate. The sweet science often shuns those on this spectrum as a bum. A single loss can single handily chop your ability to command multi-million dollar gates and PPV buys. Many say this is the very reason why Floyd Mayweather Jr. will not fight current pound-4-pound boxer Manny Pacquiao.

It is a cut throat world and to get ass, your have to bring ass. It is no different in the UFC. You do not perform up to par (unless your Tito Ortiz) and ultimately you will get cut. It happened to Brandon Vera, Antonio Mckee, and now Phil Baroni.

Baroni recently faced Hawaiian upstart Brad Tavares on the undercard of UFC 125. Tavares of TUF fame, rocked Baroni with hard shots to eventually get the TKO win. Baroni and Tavares both knew that a Baroni loss would spell the end of Baroni’s attempted comeback in the Octagon. Our Fight Hub TV cameras caught up with Brad Tavares as Ken Yates spoke with him on the Baroni fight and his release from the UFC.
