Austin Trout ready for War. “I am Faster and Stronger than Delvin Rodriguez”

by Jorge Alarcon-Swaby

Part of what makes this upcoming Saturday’s Showtime quadruple header at the Home Depot Center special, is the fact that a great fight such as Austin Trout vs Delvin Rodriguez is not even the main attraction.

Having said that, you can expect fireworks and one hell of fight as these two very exciting and hungry fighters look for supremacy at the 154 lbs weight class.

In one corner you have Delvin Rodriguez (26-5) who is coming off a unanimous decision win in a rematch against Pawel Wolak. At 32, Rodriguez is a world class fighter and has been in the game for quite some time. With great overall boxing abilities and no hesitation to mix it up with anybody, he will provide Trout the toughest challenge of his career so far.

Trout, at 28 and with an undefeated record of 24-0 has been in the search of a solid victory over a known opponent for the last 2 years. An opponent that he can finally beat and claim his arrival at the elite level. An impressive win over Rodriguez this Saturday will do just that.

Just days away from the fight, FIghtHubTv caught up with Trout to talk about the fight and what we can expect once the bell rings.

Trout talked about his excitement for the fight and how it came about, saying “That’s the perfect for me, We’ve been talking with Delvin’s camp since last August before his second fight with Pawel. I didn’t know if it was going to happen but I signed with Al Haymon and he made it happen. It’s a perfect fight, he has a good name and good style for me and he brings exciting fights so it was a no brainer, I signed right away.”

When asked about Rodriguez, Trout gave his opponent his due credit, adding “He’s got a good right hand, a fast right hand, he can box and he can brawl. But if he decides to box we’ll work on cutting him down, cutting him off. If he decides to brawl then we already know what to do with that.” And he said with the utmost of confidence.

When asked how confident he was in mixing it up with Rodriguez who is know as a fighter who likes to brawl. Trout went on to say “I think I’m faster and I think I’m stronger so if he wants to sit there and mix it up, I feel that he is going to be at the end of a lot of punches”

Trout is aware of what awaits him when he steps in the ring with Rodriguez this Saturday. He is also aware of the fact that at this stage of his career the competition will only get harder from here on out.

Having that in mind has made Trout do a few things differently in the gym. “I’ve added a new strength and conditioning coach for my last two fights, that’s gotten me a lot stronger, He’s been making me do stuff that something I believe he is making to be honest. But they are all good explosive plyometric cardio vascular workouts and he is geting me in tip top shape” he said.

It sounds like Trout is ready to go to war this Saturday night and something thats just what might have to do. It’s hard not see a fight between these two warriors, based on their styles, turning into an all out brawl for 12 rounds.

If you are attending the fight or watching it at home, make sure you turn up or tune in early because this is going to be one you don’t want to miss.
