So with Floyd Mayweather Jr. being “freed” as his supports would label it on August 4th we dug into our archives for any Mayweather related video. We got luckly and found a few clippings of raper and best friend 50 Cent talking about his friendship to Mayweather. Though the man is still in jail, you have to admit Mayweather is still a major part of boxing and will continue to be so when he is released. The formation of the TMT promotions or “The Money Team” by 50 Cent as a promotional outfit has the makings of being a major power mover. All for the obvious reason of course, Floyd Mayweather Jr. If 50 Cent wrangles away Mayweather from Golden Boy Promotions, which I think he will given the relationship between the boxer and rapper it instantly makes him one of the most power promoters in the sport.
Though we must all keep in mind that Mayweather is 36, so some heavy infrastructure needs to be done if TMT is to survive given that Mayweather will probably be retired in the next two years. It is weird seeing how a outsider can instantly become a player in boxing over night, it almost makes it apparent how fragile boxing is. 50 Cent brings a huge war chest of funds and the guy is smart, so it will be very interesting how he handles Andre Dirrel and Yuriorkis Gamboa, two fighters he is expected to sign. The days following August 4th should give us more of a indication as to how Mayweather will play into this…only time will tell.
