UFC 153 Video Picks: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Dave Herman

A late addition to the UFC 153 line-up, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (-260) and Dave Herman (+210) find themselves on the bill on only a month’s notice behind the kerfuffle which saw both of the evening’s original headlining bouts fall by the wayside. MMA Odds Breaker hosts Nick Kalikas and Miguel Iturrate took a look at this match-up earlier this week.

Matt Brown, Editor in Chief of HeavyMMA.com brings up some very valid questions about “Minotauro”. Although the only man to hold both PRIDE and UFC gold stands as one of the most beloved figures in the sport’s history, there is a lingering question nark over him, can his body hold up to all the damage it has taken over the years? Nogueira is 2-3 in his last five outings, with all losses coming by way of stoppage, not to mention the Brazilian has been on the shelf since December.

On the other side of the fence, Luca Fury, host of “The MMA Oddscast”, points out what is already known about Daven Herman, he doesn’t his job seriously when it comes to training for fights and it shows in the cage. Virtually every time out, “PeeWee” ostensibly follows absolutely no game plan and finds himself exhausted by the second stanza.

While both men bring up salient points, Herman tends to wilt when pressure when pressure is put on him, and as we’ve seen in his recent outings, Nogueira puts the pressure on, win or lose. Although he was submitted for the first time in his career by Frank Mir last December, people seem to forget that “Minotauro” almost knocked him out earlier in the round. Herman’s prone to eating big shots, due to his stiff stance, and the narrative of this bout should be Noguiera putting his new found power to the Team Quest product, scoring a TKO finish.
