Shawn Michaels TEARS UP reflecting on his WILD DX days to running WWE with Triple H

“The Showstopper,” “The Main Event,” “The Heartbreak Kid,” “Mr. Wrestlemania,” – these are just few of the epithets bestowed upon legendary WWE performer Shawn Michaels. Recently, Michaels revealed a rather emotional side, tearing up as he reminisced about his wild days with Degeneration X (DX) and his current role in WWE alongside fellow DX member, Triple H.

The Michaels-Helmsley era, as it is fondly remembered, was a time filled with mischief, rebellion, and outright chaos as DX became a prominent and influential element in the WWE universe. With Shawn Michaels and Triple H at the helm, DX became a symbol of defiance, raising hell and challenging authority figures in the industry. More than wrestling, however, Michaels and Helmsley built a camaraderie that extended beyond the ring, solidifying a bond that remains unbroken even in their transition to management positions.

Reflecting on this shared history, Michaels admitted in a candid moment, “There’s nothing I’d ever trade those run-the-roads days for.” Despite living an unprecedented life marred by excess and hard partying, The Showstopper is not one to shy away from his past, even crediting these years for his growth and resilience in the business.

“DX was something special. We broke the rules, caused uproar, but that’s what made us who we are today,” he added.

When asked about running WWE alongside Triple H, arguably one of his closest friends in the business, Michaels couldn’t hold back the tears, visibly moved by the significance of it all.

“We’ve been through it all together. We’ve seen the highs and lows, and to now be in this position where we influence the future of this industry is a privilege,” he said.

Their influence is certainly evident. Under their guidance, the global juggernaut has experienced a massive transformation, cultivating a new generation of superstar talent and driving innovative programming initiatives like the WWE Performance Center and NXT.

Yet, as Michaels explained, running the WWE is more than just a job; it’s a legacy. The Heartbreak Kid has spent his life in the business – a business he cares deeply for.

“Wrestling is my life. It has given me everything, and I want to ensure that future generations have the same opportunities I had,” he emphasized, teary-eyed in his earnestness.

The switch from being headline performers to backstage executives has its challenges, but Michaels and Triple H handle it with the same fearlessness they used in the ring. Their wrestling wisdom, combined with their real-life experiences, has helped them redefine the WWE brand while inspiring younger talent to strive for greatness.

Looking back at the DX days certainly brings a sense of nostalgia for Michaels, but as he pointed out, it was those times that ultimately shaped his present. Now, he employs his past experiences – the triumphs, the failures, the controversies – to mentor the next generation of WWE stars.

“We are part of something bigger. We are building the future. And that, to me, is the most exciting part,” he expressed.

Michaels may well be past his days as the showstopper, but he’s proven his value extends far beyond the ring. By investing in the future of WWE and guiding its current talent, he upholds the legacy of his career. And for fans and wrestlers alike, that’s something truly worth cheering for.

“I’ve had an unbelievable career, but to see where we are now, it makes every bump and bruise worth it,” Michaels said, reflecting on his journey. “I hope I can continue to make a difference in this business I love so much.”
