Morales edges Lorenzo on points in a close fight

Mexican legend Erik “Terrible” Morales (51-6, 35 KOs) won a unanimous decision over late replacement Francisco Lorenzo (35-9, 16KOs) Saturday night at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, BC, Mexico. It was not one of Morales best performances though, as Lorenzo was the aggressor for the majority of the fight walking through Morales power punches. For his part though, Morales dropped Lorenzo in the fifth round with a right hand but Lorenzo recovered quickly. The later parts of the fights had some competitive exchanges but Morales seemed to leave a better impression with the judges as all three scored the bout 116-111, 114-113, 115-112.

Morales has stated that with a win he would like to challenge the lineal lightweight champion in Juan Manuel Marquez in search of his fourth world title in as many divisions. Marquez though has made it public that he would like a third fight with Manny Pacquiao.
