You would be hard pressed to find a single fight fan happy about the recent news that Jon Jones was injured in training, thus forcing the postponement of his highly anticipated title fight against the undefeated top contender Daniel Cormier at UFC 178 this September.
One man who benefited from the injury was UFC flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. Once the injury news broke, the UFC announced that Johnson would be pulled from the UFC 177 co-main event, and would instead replace Jones vs Cormier as the main event for UFC 178 as he takes on unheralded challenger Chris Cariaso.
When the UFC initially announced Johnson would be defending his title against Cariaso in the co-main event of UFC 177, fans and pundits alike were shocked and confused with the decision.
Now that the bout is the main event of UFC 178 due to Jones’ injury, the reactions were not too great as expected. Johnson, who is a relatively timid and soft spoken champion, decided to step outside the box with this tweet yesterday:
Bad: You’ll have to wait a bit longer to see me win again. Good: I’m the new UFC 178 headliner. Bout time that card gets a real main event.

At least Johnson’s tweet should provide a bit more hype to the flyweight title fight. If Johnson and Cariaso could find it within themselves to ramp up a bit of trash talk, they could save UFC 178 after all.
