Mr. “Big Country” Roy Nelson was in the corner of King Mo Lawal for his Bellator light-heavyweight title match with Emanuel Newton. The two fighters went a full five rounds with Newton beating Lawal once more via a UD. The decision was surprising to some who felt it could of been a bit closer and it opened up the age old argument of quality strikes over volume strikes.
So what should count more? A handful of really precise and damaging shots or a volume of not so impactful shots? Roy Nelson seems to side with quality over quantity, as he feels Lawal landed the better shots and blocked a lot of strikes that Newton was throwing at him. Our man Marcos Villegas had a chance to speak to him about the loss and Nelson’s recent loss to Daniel Cormier in which he states he would of liked to have two more rounds and a rematch.
