Fight Hub TV Exclusive: Trevor Prangley Talks Loss to Roger Gracie

Brought to you by Century MMA.

Fight Hub TV spoke  exclusively to Trevor Prangley following his loss to Roger Gracie at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg. Prangley, who dropped his 7th career loss to the younger Gracie does not expect to stop fighting anytime soon as he expects a March return at Shark Fights. The loss to Gracie though, has been hard to swallow as Prangley cites it as being “Embarassing.” See what the South African fighter had to say about his bout and more!

FH: We are here being joined by Trevor Prangley, Trevor the result did not go your way but I wanted to know what are your thoughts on yoru fight with Roger Gracie?

TP: It was a tough fight, it did not go my way, we stuck to the gameplan on my feet and we just got caught with that stupid little trip on the feet. I knew it was coming..and just ended up where I did not want to be.

FH: What was the contingency plan, for when he would get you on the ground?

TP: We figured that much, my plan was when we got to the ground to survive. I should of left him in the mount instead of climbing up the fence and throwing him over. I should of known the guy was just too long and lanky and just too good of a grappler to do that to. Being a fighter I didn’t want to stay down there but there was thirty seconds left and I just stayed down there.

FH: How was it like working with him on the ground?

TP: The guy is like a vice! He tied me down and there was nothing I could do. It was pretty frustrating, I haven’t had many losses in my career and it is hard to swallow, especially when you get subbed. Sometimes when you lose a decision it is not that bad but he just got me good tonight.

FH: In the beginning of the round there was a feeling out process, what was going on and what were you looking for at that time?

TP: I was checking for his jab and looking for my distance, I knew he wanted to get in and take me down. I normally bring the striking but knowing that he wanted the takedown it would have been stupid of me to go in and rush wildly, He would of gotten the takedown a lot earlier. The game plan was going to how we practiced it; Feel it out, when there is a opening punch and get out, grab and get out. I was happy with the way the fight was going and I figured the deeper into the rounds he would get more desperate and go for shots or open up on the feet.

FH: You mentioned before that you feel like you’re the fill in guy when it comes to fights, does that frustrate you?

TP: No, if that is the roll I got to play right now, it is the role I got to play. I am a good fighter, I am a entertainer, I like to get out there and that it what makes it so hard for me. The loss is so embarrassing to me because I want to entertain the fans, I want to give them a good fight and to go down like that I feel like I failed in my purpose tonight.

FH: Seeing Herschel Walker compete tonight, and he being much older than you, does he inspire you to keep going or you do not see yourself going for much longer?

TP: Herschel is a one in a million, I had this conversation with Javier Mendez and Bob Cook and when you guys tell me it is time to quit, I will quit but I will keep going until then. I do not want to go out there and embarrass myself and lose five, six fight in a row and wreck the career I built with blood and sweat, I do not want to do that.  I am comfortable enough to quit when I am ready to quit I just got put in a bad situation tonight with a guy that is that much better than me in the grappling and that much more awkward. If I had just survived that round the fight could have been different and more entertaining for everyone. I am not going to quit yet, and I will get my win back this coming March at Shark Fights.
