Matt Brown: “I know I’d destroy GSP”

Name the guy in the welterweight division who is on a five-fight win streak that damn-near includes five nasty finishes and seems to be on a new level? Matt Brown. You may have remembered him from The Ultimate Fighter: Rampage vs. Forrest, but now he’s in your head because of his ridiculous body shots and kind of scary never say die attitude. Matt Brown is a seemingly new man. When he fought John Howard at Kongo vs. Barry some people wondered why Dana was keeping around a 11-10 striker with jiu jitsu problems, but we know why now, and Matt Brown is trying to make a case for himself as the next guy to fight GSP. At least I think he is, even though he’s not in the top ten.

In the last year and a half, Mike Brown has decimated the young up and comer Jordan Mein, knocked out Mike Swick, derailed the hype train of Stephen Thompson and more. Maybe there’s something to this GSP thing? Either that or a Martin Kampmann fight would be amazing…

Whether he’s trying to talk himself into a fight a la Chael, or he truly believes these things, Matt Brown is looking for a fight with GSP. Read his incendiary words from Bleacher Report:

“I think he’d be scared to get close enough to hit me because I’m not going to avoid anything he throws. I’m going to step right in the pocket and throw down. He’s not going to have any option but to be on the feet with me. Even if he has the skills to stand, he would not be able to handle my pressure, tenacity and desire to win. I think I’m one of the worst match ups for GSP.”

“Everyone thinks I’m delusional and crazy for thinking that, but I know who I am. If I go in there the best I can be, I know I’d destroy GSP. When I come in against GSP, I’m going in to take the belt from him, I’m not going to play around with the world title on the line. I’m 110% confident, if I show up at my best, he does not stand a chance in hell against me. This match up with Thiago is a far tougher match up for me than GSP.”
