Junior Dos Santos on Cain Velasquez: “He didn’t prove he was the better fighter.”

I don’t mean to be mean, but maybe JDS really did suffer some brain damage over his last two fights with Cain. JDS: Cain’s better than you. That’s just something you’re going to have to accept. I understand that to be the best in any sport, you have to be absolutely confident in your abilities to a degree that is probably foreign to most, border lining crazy.

Tatame sat down with JDS to discuss his post-trilogy life, and he outright said that Cain’s strategy was boring and proved basically nothing. Look at your face after that fight JDS. Cain would’ve finished everybody but you. Well, then again, he did finish you kind of. And even then, you thought you were out after the second round! Ugh.

CA: Where do you see yourself in the heavyweight division right now?

JDS: I still consider myself one of the main challengers to the title. He showed that he had an effective strategy to win the fight, looking to play it safe while not taking many chances to show he was the better fighter, blocking my punches in a way that is typical of wrestlers. He applied pressure, grabbing hold of me and avoiding the fight, making the fight boring, making the audience boo a lot. An effective strategy to win, but he didn’t prove he was the better fighter.
