Jon Jones defeats Alexander Gustafsson in a veritable “dog fight”

Jon (Bones) Jones; Tom Wright; Alexander (The Mauler) Gustafsson

This was Jon Jones’ greatest test. Alexander Gustafsson brought him to the judges, and although there was a 49-46 in favor of Jones, the fight was much, much closer than the unanimous decision will ever read. Frankly, I think Jones got it 3-2, but I could see it going either way.

For nearly 25 minutes, Alexander Gustafsson picked at Jon Jones’ face with a reach and tenacity never shown against the now record-holding light heavyweight champ. Jones has won ten fights in a row now, and has the record for most consecutive light heavyweight title defenses. He showed the champion’s heart tonight, and rallied back from being taken down for the first time in his career, to being bloodied and battered and possibly losing a fight.

It was incredible, and Jon Jones is truly staking his claim in MMA history by eating about 200 punches and still throwing his deadly spinning elbows. It was awesome, it was like he was spamming the attack on UFC 3 by round 4, and my god did it pay off.

Both men ended up covered and blood, barely able to raise their arms in supposed victory, and it was one of the best fights of the year. Bravo, and grats to Jon Jones.
