Henry Cejudo will in fact move to 135 pounds to fight in the UFC

UFC president Dana White gave former Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo two options: Move up to the bantamweight division, or don’t fight in the UFC.

White’s comments were stemming from Cejudo pulling out of his scheduled UFC 177 flyweight bout with Scott Jorgensen just hours before the official weigh-ins due to medical issues during his weight cut to 125 pounds.

Pulling out of UFC 177 was the third fight Cejudo had withdrawn from in 2014 due to weight cutting issues. At this point, it is blatantly evident that Cejudo can not and should not attempt to cut down to 125 pounds, and should be competing at 135 pounds instead.

Bill McFarlane, Cejudo’s manager, spoke with MMAFighting today, and noted that Cejudo will in fact be moving up to the bantamweight division in order to compete in the UFC.

“Henry is absolutely interested in competing in the UFC and will be happy to move to 135 pounds,” McFarlane said earlier today.

At this point there is no word as to who Cejudo will fight in his debut or when, but we do know it will be in the bantamweight division.
