Of course I feel bad for Dominick Cruz, the guy has been battling injuries that have kept him out of the Octagon for over two years now. TWO YEARS! Yesterday was the official 2-year anniversary of when he defeated Mighty Mouse to defend his bantamweight title. A title which he has only defended twice. Renan Barao now has more title defenses than Cruz. Incredible.
If Cruz comes back, which he has said will be in 2014, then the fight between Barao will be a tough one. Barao has been an absolute MONSTER, destroying everyone in his path. Will a rusty Cruz be able to stop him? I don’t know. But if he does, he will then be considered the real bantamweight champion. A title that Dana White now gives to Barao:
“For all intents and purposes Renan Barao is the real champion. He is the one beating the guys that need to be beat.
Renan Barao is a champion. If you look at Renan Barao and everything he’s done, he’s beat everybody that Dominick Cruz was healthy and was the champion. It takes nothing away from him other than that pin, that placeholder until Dominick Cruz comes back.”
