Joe Lauzon after TKO victory over Michael Chiesa: “Rematches are dumb”

UFC lightweight and fan favorite Joe Lauzon returned to the Octagon this past friday night at UFC Fight Night 50. After a long layoff, Lauzon returned to the win column with a TKO victory over former TUF Live winner Michael Chiesa.

The TKO was awarded to Lauzon after the doctor stopped the bout in the second round due to a brutal cut over Chiesa’s eye. The unceremonious ending to an otherwise spectacular fight has many calling for an immediate rematch, especially Michael Chiesa.

Joe Lauzon took to Instagram today to state his case on why “rematches are dumb” and why he deserves to move up the rankings for his next bout.

Lauzon is effectively pointing out that he won the first round on all three judges scorecards, which gives Chiesa no leg to stand on when it comes to demanding an immediate rematch.

It is also important to note that Lauzon hit Chiesa with an elbow, a legal attack, that caused the cut. If the cut was caused by an errant head collision or an illegal knee, then potentially Chiesa has a point.

What do you think? Should the UFC book the rematch, or move forward as is? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
