Poirier was meant to be McGregor’s first true test in the UFC, but the Irishman walked right through him, knocking him out in the first round just as he predicted before the fight. After the event ended, McGregor seemed destined to leapfrog the entire UFC Featherweight division en route to fighting the winner of the UFC 179 main event for the Featherweight championship.
A few weeks later, and now McGregor is noting that he will likely have one more fight prior to getting a crack at the title:
Myself, Uncle Frank and the rest of La Familia are in the process of selecting another victim to eliminate in the meantime.

With Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson set to face off in November, the options are limited for McGregor to leapfrog either of those men for a title shot, but crazier things have happened.
