In January, Sweden will get their biggest MMA event yet as their hometown hero Alexander Gustafsson returns to take on the dangerous Anthony “Rumble” Johnson in the main event of UFC on FOX 14.
In what is surely a No. 1 contender bout in the Light Heavyweight division, both men are sure to put on a show to set the tone for 2015 in MMA.
The UFC announced the matchup earlier today on their website, and Alexander Gustafsson could not be happier to be fighting in front of his home crowd.
“This is going to be an epic event,” Gustafsson told UFC.com. “I want more than 30,000 fans to come and witness me win on January 24. Then I’m going to go and get the title! My journey back to the top starts now.”
Gustafsson earned his rematch with Jon Jones by defeating Jimi Manuwa this past March, but after sustaining an injury and being replaced by Daniel Cormier, Gustafsson lost his place in line.
With Cormier and Jones set to battle at UFC 182, the Johnson vs Gustafsson bout perfectly lines up for the winners to face each other in mid-2015.
