Tonight the junior middleweight title eliminator between Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martirosyan is sure to be a highly-contested battle between two warriors in the ring.
After two years of trash talking the time has finally come for Lara and Martirosyan to put up or shut up in the ring. The victor of tonight’s showdown will earn a shot at WBC junior middleweight champ Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
Also on the televised portion of the fight card is a 10-round super featherweight battle between Johnathan Barros and Mikey Garcia.
Stayed tuned to FightHub TV for up-to-date results and reaction to tonight’s HBO televised fight card.
Main event: Erislandy Lara vs. Martirosyan
After a heated, physical fight between Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martirosyan an accidental headbutt opened a cut on Vanes, to which the fight was stopped in Round 9 resulting in a technical draw with scores of 86-85 Vanes, 87-84 Lara and 86-86.
With the winner supposed to have being set up with a fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, so a rematch between the two has to be on the horizon.
Lara (17-1-2, KOs) started out slow, but started to come on after Round 3, exchanging power shots with Vanes (32-0-1, 20 KOs) from then on out. If the two have a rematch–something that both Lara and Vanes expressed interest in after the bout– a KO will be a high possibility, as the two showed that they don’t like each other and were swinging for the fences all night.
Co-feature: Jonathan Victor Barros vs. Mikey Garcia
After dominating all but one of the eight rounds in their featherweight bout, Mikey Garcia (30-0, 26 KOs) ended the fight abruptly, landing a crushing left hook on Jonathan Victor Barros (34-4-1, 17 KOs) in Round 8.
Barros elected not to continue after the shot and said after the fight that he was shocked, as he had never been knocked down before.
Garcia gets the much-needed win, setting up his bout with WBO title holder Orlando Salido–that was supposed to take place tonight before Salido broke his finger–in early in 2013.
