Lucian Bute defended his IBF super middleweight title with an impressive ninth round KO Jesse Brinkley on Friday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Bute was finding his groove and boxing tactically until a left body uppercut dropped Brinkley in round five. Brinkley made his way back up, but you could tell he was on the threshold of defeat. In round eight, Bute would drop Brinkley once more and wrapped it up in round nine, utilizing a vicious uppercut to dispose of his foe.
In the co-feature, former WBC light heavyweight champion Adrian Diaconu recovered from a second round knockdown to win a ten round unanimous decision over Omar Sheika.
