With social media so popular these days the world of sports has embraced the new technology, especially boxing, where it seems that Twitter is the place to go and call out fighters these days.

Welterweight contender and three-division champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero took to Twitter to call out the undefeated three-division champ Adrien Broner.

The tweets came after a fan suggested the two fighters get it on in the ring, to which Broner tweeted at Guerrero and a classic new hash tag was born in the process. Both Guerrero’s and Broner’s tweets have since been taken down.

Broner (27-0. 22 KOs) has drawn comparisons to pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. due to his skill in the ring and his cocky, flashy attitude in and outside of the ring.

Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KOs) has already tasted what Mayweather has in the ring, losing a lopsided unanimous decision in May, showing that although Guerrero is a talent on the rise, he is far from the elite level of Mayweather.

Broner himself is a one of, if the not the biggest, rising stars in boxing and many hope he can carry the torch once Mayweather calls it quits.

Although he has yet to lose a fight, Broner is not on Mayweather’s level yet either, but could reach the elite level with more experience under his belt.

A Guerreo-Broner showdown would actually be a great fight and Golden Boy Promotions would be smart to pair the two in the ring. Broner could give fans a sense of how just how good he is, as the fight would be compared to Mayweather’s bout with Guerrero and be used as measuring stick of sorts to gauge just how good Broner is.

Guerrero in turn could prove he is still a force on the welterweight division and show that all though many feel Broner is the next face of boxing, that he is in fact the best of the new generation in the port with a win.

It remains to be seen if anything comes out of the brief Twitter beef between the two, but keep your eyes posted to Twitter, as you never know what might go up and be taken down shortly thereafter.
